Maxna vs CloudResearch Sentry

Sentry is a patented mini-survey plus DigiPrint. That is 2016 fraud detection. Maxna is a dual-layer gate - respondent quality and response quality - so AI Agents and AI-written answers do not become completes.

CloudResearch Sentry is the incumbent survey fraud gate. It is not a fingerprint plugin. It is not an identity vendor. That is why teams still buy it.

It is also why it is the wrong last line of defense in 2026.

Sentry’s own page describes the product: a 15–30 second pre-survey module, behavioral question libraries, DigiPrint® fingerprinting, event tracking, and AI grading of an open-end inside that module. Failed traffic loops back to the supplier. Passed traffic enters your survey.

Maxna is built for the interview that happens after that module would have said yes.

The scorecard lives at Maxna vs Sentry. This note is the argument.

What Sentry actually sells

Give Sentry the credit it earned. Unlike Verisoul or RelevantID, Sentry was designed for market research:

  • A redirect gate in front of Qualtrics, Decipher, SurveyMonkey, and the rest
  • Attention, honesty, and yea-saying items drawn from large libraries
  • Device fingerprinting (DigiPrint) and duplicate-IP / location blocks
  • An event recorder on the Sentry questions
  • A supplier dashboard so you can see pass/fail by source

That is a respondent-quality gate with extra questions. It still asks, first and last: is this a real-enough person who can pass our items?

Sample integrity in 2026 asks a second question Sentry was not built to answer: is this interview usable research, or is it an AI Agent?

The known-library problem

Sentry’s differentiator is also its leak.

They publish the model. Four behavioral questions for throughput. Five for Titanium+. Six plus an AI-graded open-end for the “strongest” template. Pass rates on their site sit around 70–85% depending on how many items you hang on the session. The constructs are public: attention, honesty, effort, B2B claims. Their FAQ says they will show you example question types.

Professional respondents already know Sentry. They have taken those libraries on other studies. They know the “impossible knowledge” item, the yea-say trap, the too-fast fail. A gate made of reusable questions becomes a training set. Trap-only QC selects for professionals. Sentry is the industrial version of that pattern.

An AI Agent is better at those items than a bored human. “Do you know the name of every type of fish in existence?” is an LLM gimme. DigiPrint sees real Chrome. The library sees a coherent answer. The agent is in your n.

Maxna does not hang the decision on a question bank the street can memorize. Outer shell, interaction physics, then proprietary AI on the answers. The session still has to behave like a person and write like a person.

They grade their open-end. You need yours graded.

Sentry markets ChatGPT blocking. Read the demo: the blocked paragraph is inside their screening module. That is useful. It is not response quality on your questionnaire.

Once Sentry says pass, the respondent is in field. Your brand tracker’s verbatims, your concept test’s “why,” your pricing study’s objections - those are no longer Sentry’s problem unless you buy a second product. Attentcha™, their in-survey attention tool, is still positioned as early access on the same page.

Maxna’s gate is dual-layer on purpose. Respondent quality (device, bots, farms, duplicates, geo, pros) and response quality (AI-written open-ends, low-effort text, inconsistency). Cadence and Aether go deeper on content because that is where 2026 fraud hides after a person-check clears.

A Sentry pass plus a ChatGPT paste in question 14 is a complete you will still pay for.

DigiPrint is a fingerprint. An AI Agent has a fingerprint.

Sentry’s FAQ is honest about this in one direction: fingerprinting alone is not enough, so they add questions. Agreed.

The 2026 miss is the other direction. Device fingerprinting plus answered behavioral items is still “does this look like a real session that can pass our test.” AI Agents exist to look like a real session. Real browser. Real device. Paced clicks. Then a model writes the survey.

Maxna fails that complete on residue Sentry’s module never scores as a fused decision:

  • Pointer, focus, paste, and timing that do not match a human taking this interview
  • Tab hops while a model drafts the next answer
  • Open-ends that are fluent, generic, and empty
  • Inconsistency a live respondent would not hold

Sentry can clear the library. Maxna still fails the complete.

CloudResearch sells sample. Maxna does not.

Sentry sits next to Connect, CloudResearch’s participant marketplace. The same company that can send you respondents also sells the quality stamp on those respondents - and on everyone else’s.

That is a conflict you should price. Research Defender / Rep Data has the same shape: sample company, quality product.

Maxna does not sell sample. Integrity is the product. One supplier-agnostic gate across every source on the wave, with reject reasons your buyer and your supplier can share. If a Connect link (or anyone else’s) is dirty, the gate says so without protecting a sibling P&L.

Patent is not a 2026 threat model

Sentry leans on U.S. Patent 10,572,778 and “world’s first patented behavioral fraud detection.” The patent covers behavioral screening methods. It does not catch an LLM operator. It does not grade your verbatims. It does not make a known library un-gameable.

Buy the architecture, not the plaque.

Scorecard

Sentry matches Maxna on the 2016 stack: market-research gate, DigiPrint-class device, bots, VPN, geo, duplicates.

The 2026 rows are the buy:

  • Your answers, not theirs. Maxna grades the interview. Sentry AI-grades an open-end they insert.
  • AI Agents. Maxna fails them on behavior and text. Sentry sees real Chrome plus passed library items.
  • Professionals. Maxna does not publish the exam. Sentry’s libraries are a training set.
  • Independence. Maxna does not sell sample. CloudResearch sells Connect.

When Maxna is the better buy

  • Open-ends are still synthetic after a Sentry wave
  • You suspect agents, not just bots
  • You do not want the sample seller running QC
  • Pros are farming the libraries
  • You need one dual-layer gate, not a template that adds 15–30 seconds of known items plus an optional in-survey bolt-on later

Sentry was the right product for a world of inattentive humans and crude bots. That world is not gone. It is no longer the frontier.
